Writer's Block: Role model

Is there any character from a novel or film that serves as a role model to you? What kind of advice do you think she or he would give you regarding any major issues you're facing right now?

I would actually go with Aragorn from the LoTR series...He has to put aside his quieter personality and rise to the leadership role that is before him.

Writer's Block: Licensed to Drive

Should we just be handing over the car keys when kids turn 16? Why or why not?

As a Memphian I say absolutely not. Unfortunely, there are too many kids who haven't learned to be responsible enough at that age. Yes I know that it's harder as far as school stuff and work goes, but that's why there are buses and parents that drive and we have legs. Granted I know that this is harder in metro environments, but too many people are hurt and injured because of recklessness of teens behind the wheel.

If anything, the driving tests should be more challenging if they want to have the license and drive.....I can say that because I had to take it a couple of times, and I did minor wreck 2x and got 2 speeding tickets within 9 months after my licence...

A moment's Reflection.

I was reminded by someone of an incident 19 years ago. One of my acquaintances from high school, Richard Gray, took his life. It basically shut the senior class down that day.

So in thinking about that, let me remind all my different friends and folks I know that read this of something.

You're special and one of a kind. You may think you sometimes don't make a difference, but you do because someone like me knows you and thinks the world of you.

RIP Richard.

An open letter to John Calipari

Dear Cal,

As a Memphian, I know that’s it’s not been easy living in this town. We have crime, and dishonesty and heat and sometimes just bad luck in our fair city. However, we have hospitality that you can’t find elsewhere. We have the basketball madness that drives this town thru anything and everything. We have the best barbeque around.

And we’ve had you. One of the best ambassadors this city has. You do realize that you could run for city mayor and potentially win. You are unofficially a city leader in the fact that you help shape how people spend free time in this town. You’ve also been one of the best guys to help build up the work in areas of community service. You’ve given many a young man around here opportunity to grow and shine when the culture could turn them the other way.

So even though the money might be more elsewhere.
So even though the chance to go to a higher profile conference exists.
So even though you could have things your way elsewhere.

DON”T GO.

Memphis NEEDS you here. Please think about it.

Thanks,
Pat Stubblefield

Reflections

364 days ago my son was born. What in the world have I learned since then?

1. I CAN get by on less sleep if necessary though I will be grouchy.

2. I better learn to increase my patience on some things because he won't know better at first.

3. I'd give up all my material possessions to keep my little man safe and healthy.

4. A little baby hug can sometimes be the best thing to keep you sane in a stressed world.

5. It's too quiet when he's out of the house and I'm here by myself.

Arevaderci Bruno....

Got news that the actor Ron Silver passed on over the weekend. He was good in his craft. I knew him best as the character "Bruno Ginaneli" from West Wing. Suposedly taken from some aspects of Dick Morris, Bruno knew how to run a good campaign ( for Bartlett) and was a worthy advisor for Arnold Vinick. Showed signs of character in season 7.

Arevaderci Bruno, hope you see Leo up there.

so I'm normal.....somewhat...

So, redhead1der, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 2% unique (blame, for example, your interest in science breakthroughs) and 21% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy sex). When it comes to friends you are lonely. In terms of the way you relate to people, you believe in give and take. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is conventional.

Your overall weirdness is: 25

(The average level of weirdness is: 29.
You are weirder than 55% of other LJers.)
